Things Are Moving On - Design Contract Out to Tender

February 2017

Transport Scotland has just invited bids from design consultancies for the 26 mile Aberdeen-Huntly section of the new A96 dual carriageway programme.

Worth £50 million, this assessment and design contract includes the section around Inverurie, and the route options which could impact the Bennachie area.

By the end of this two year contract, the consultants will have come up with their 'preferred option'.

Keith Brown, Cabinet Secretary for the Economy, Jobs and Fair Work said,

When this contract is awarded later this year, design work for the eastern section will step up a gear with route option assessment work getting under way.

Save Bennachie will let you know the outcome of this tender process.

Once the consultants have been appointed, the Save Bennachie team will be making contact with them to help them understand the myriad of reasons why it would be wholly inappropriate to site a dual carriageway on the foothills of Bennachie, and to demonstrate the strength of public opinion, and just why Bennachie is the most loved hill in Britain.
